11/27/2016 Glass Slippers, Winged Sandals and Red-hot Shoes of Torment: Shoes in Early Children's Stories Downtown Free

In many children's stories glass slippers and winged sandals tell only half the tale. In fact, in many of these examples, the wearer actually becomes the victim of the shoe! Join us as Leslie McGrath explores this thought-provoking and fascinating subject using illustrations from the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books. Following the talk, guests will have the opportunity to tour the exhibition "Fashion Victims: The Pleasures and Perils of Dress in the 19th Century".
